Short-Term Wilderness Survival

Course Description

This two-day course is intended as an introduction to survival skills for those that do not expect to find themselves in survival situations. It does not cover long-term survival practices. Students will need to be prepared to be outside both days, including an overnight bivouac. This class, consisting of professional classroom presentations and outside field exercises, will discuss and practice the following topics:

  • Shelter construction
  • Fire-making
  • Water acquisition
  • Priorities in survival situations
  • Wilderness Dis-eases
  • 10 essentials—survival equipment
  • Navigation with natural aids
  • Overnight bivouac in your shelter
  • Preventative Search and Rescue


  • Target Audience: Outdoor Enthusiasts, SAR Volunteers
  • Class Time: 2 days. Class will start at 9am on Saturday and end at 4pm on Sunday
  • Required equipment: outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather
